What do 87 Chrome tabs cost in RAM?
Sam Altman says most RAM in personal computers sits idle. Our 87 Chrome tabs heard that and disagreed. So we turned the RAM they use into money.
How much RAM does a tab use?
It depends on the site. A text page takes tens of MB; a tab running video or a web app can take hundreds of MB, even over 1GB.
For the sums we assume an average of 150MB per tab. You can check the real numbers in Chrome's Task Manager (Shift+Esc).
The conclusion
Closing tabs saves you RAM money. We will not be closing any.
